Dear Prospective Juror, In preparation for your jury service, the Court has taken multiple precautions to maintain the health and safety of jurors and others in the Courthouse. Information about these steps can be found on the Court’s website at https://www.dccourts.gov/stepstokeepyousafe.
Jury trials are fundamental to our system of justice and jury service is one of the most important civic duties that you can perform. The right to trial by jury, guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution, protects all our rights and liberties. It is important that jurors represent a broad cross-section of our city. That is why you are called upon to serve as a juror.
The COVID-19 virus has impacted all of us in the District of Columbia and changed the way we live and work. In March 2020, for the health and safety of the public and court staff, the D.C. Superior Court suspended all jury trials. With the approval of the D.C. Department of Health [“DOH”] and authorization of the Mayor’s Office, the court will now resume limited jury operations in April 2021. As the COVID-19 epidemic continues to evolve, the Chief Judge will monitor the situation closely and coordinate juror reporting based on current recommendations from DOH and national health authorities.
On behalf of the D.C. Superior Court, we thank you for your willingness to serve as a juror.
Based on your responses to the questions below, you may be eligible to request a postponement of your jury duty. If you wish to request a postponement, contact the Jurors’ Office at 202-879-4604 or JurorHelp@dcsc.gov. Unless you are officially excused, you must report for jury duty on the date of your summons.
