The Criminal Division of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia is responsible for processing all local criminal matters including felony, misdemeanor, District of Columbia code violations and criminal traffic cases. However, all criminal domestic violence cases (DVM) are handled in the Domestic Violence Unit. The Criminal Division is administratively divided into four branches: Case Management, Special Proceedings, Quality Assurance, and Courtroom Support. It also oversees the operation of several specialized courts known as problem solving courts. The District of Columbia Courts now has eight community courts: DC Community Court, Mental Health Community Court, 1D Community Court, 2D/4D Community Court, 3D Community Court, 5D Community Court, 6D Community Court, and 7D Community Court.
